Abstract

Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center in Indiana has raised coyote pups since 1995 and the author has been the senior coyote caretaker since 2000. This paper details vaccines, antiparasitics, diet guidelines, housing, behavior, introducing non–littermates, preventing habituation, enrichment for survival, and release site selection.

Author Biography

Denise Hays, Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center

Denise Hays is Assistant Director of Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center, Inc., and is senior coyote team leader. She works with the enrichment program for wildlife in rehabilitation and for permanent educational residents, is the volunteer coordinator, and is in charge of the internship program at the Center. Denise also owns and operates Wildways: Humane Wildlife Choices, a non–lethal wild animal control company.
